About the Scholarship:
Since 2010, the Flying Tigers 69th D.R.S. Assn., Inc. has supported an academic scholarship program for the descendants of the Flying Tigers and other members of the 14th Air Force. The Flying Tigers 69th D.R.S. Assn., Inc. maintains two commemorative scholarship funds: the Marty Oxenburg Scholarship (which is funded entirely by donations) and the Doris van Tanner Tursky Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The women and men of the 69th DRS Association and generations to follow will forever be indebted to the incredible generosity of our beloved Tiger comrade Hank Tursky who set up the Doris van Tanner Tursky Memorial Scholarship Endowment as a tribute to his lovely wife Doris and so that the memory of those who fought for our country will not be forgotten.
Scholarship awards are distributed from these accounts. Since 2010, 25 scholarship recipients have received monetary awards totaling $25,450. The annual application dates and process will be published on this website, along application forms. Once the application deadline passes, applications will be removed until the next scholarship cycle begins.

Eligibility requirements include:
1. relationship to a veteran who served with the 69th DRS, 14th AF Flying Tigers
2. relationship to any veteran who served with the AVG or 14th Air Force during WWII
3. relationship to any veteran who served in the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater
4. relationship to a current or past veteran of the 14th Air Force (post WWII)
5. relationship to a current or past veteran of the US Air Force
Scholarship applications will be reviewed and awarded in priority of eligibility, as listed above.
Other requirements include, enrollment in an accredited academic institution, a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, submission of a short essay describing the applicant’s goals and aspirations, and a more extensive essay on a topic related to the history of the Flying Tigers and/or an interview with one of the Flying Tigers.
The intent of having applicants research and write this essay is to provide them an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the critical role that the Flying Tigers had in the China-Burma-India theater during WWII, and in the process learn something important about a member of their family. The essays that have been submitted by past applicants have demonstrated a true interest in Flying Tiger history, a heartfelt link between generations, a testimony to the patriotism and heroism of the Flying Tigers, and a sense of purpose and commitment to the future. Eligible individuals may apply for scholarships in consecutive years if they continue to meet academic requirements and submit an essay on a new topic or interview a different member of the Flying Tigers.
