William R. Wood, Sr., 95, of Strasburg, died Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Helen M. (Koenig) Wood, who died in 2003.
Bill was a WWII veteran with the 14th Army Air Corps CBI 69th Flying Tigers Depot Repair Squadron. He was stationed in Kunming, China.
He was an antique dealer for over 50 years. He started and operated the first full time auction house in Lancaster, the Fulton Market Auction. He later operated William R. Wood & Son Old Mill Antiques in Strasburg.
Bill was a member of Lancaster Liederkrantz and the former Paul R. Strubel VFW Post #8710.
He had a great sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late William and Margie Wood Bowen. He is survived by a son, William R. Jr., married to Catherine Holden Wood of Pequea; two daughters, Kathleen A. married to Joseph Ruhl, and Betty Lou, married to George Rolko, both of Strasburg; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Marks and a granddaughter, Victoria Haefner.
